That’s how many Australians have been bullied at work, per WorkSafe Australia.
As educators, we always talk about positive work experiences, and our students going on to achieve great things.
But let’s be real for a sec.
Australians frequently experience negative work environments.
56-year-old Victoria, an experienced admin professional from New South Wales, saw this herself.
'I was redeployed from a great environment to a poor one. The culture wasn’t great and there was a bit of bullying. So, a year ago, I resigned,' Victoria said.
Nobody should have to put up with a toxic work environment, and we’re proud of Victoria for not doing so.
Time for a Change
Victoria chose to frame her experience positively. It was the perfect time to change up her career.
'I’d been in admin for a million years, and just wanted to try something new.'
She enrolled in a HLT37315 Certificate III in Health Administration at Duke Education, and has been loving the course.
'There are a fair few jobs for health admin on Seek.'
'I thought I’d probably have a better chance at getting one of those jobs if I got trained.'
Since then, Victoria has been on fire with her studies, and she’s clearly driven to succeed.
A Fantastic Experience at Duke
Victoria’s gone from a pretty average situation to an awesome one.
Her course is exactly where she wants to be.
'I’m actually really enjoying the course! Even though I’m experienced in admin, I’m still learning lots of new things.'
'It’s structured so cleverly. Even for someone like me who’s new to learning online, it’s super easy to follow.'
And when she has got stuck? She’s made the most of Duke Education’s support services.
'I love the online chat support. It’s quick and there’s always someone there to help… you’re not waiting, like, an hour for someone!' she laughs.
This is a lady who’s got some nightmare on-hold stories – we can just tell!
What’s on the Horizon for Victoria?
Victoria has some big post-study plans. She’s either going to look for work in health admin or continue her studies further.
'I’m even thinking about going on to Cert IV if everything goes well.'
With her positive attitude and eagerness to learn, anyone can tell that Victoria is going to go far in whatever she does.
Keep doing what you do best, Victoria!
