The Skye’s the Limit

'My resume was crap ‘til 2013.'

'It had literally… nothing on it.'

39-year-old Skye from New South Wales is, as you can tell, a straight shooter.

And just as her speech doesn’t falter, neither does her determination.

From having a ‘crap’ resume to enrolling at Duke, Skye has done a full 180.

She’s now kicking goals in her SIT30122 Certificate III in Tourism, and is well on track to finish.

Why Skye Needed Flexibility

But education wasn’t always a possibility for Skye, who’s also a parent and has a casual housekeeping job to pay the bills.

TAFE? Not really feasible.

'A lot of the time, I get called up for work at the last minute. So that wouldn’t really work if I was going to TAFE, because all your classes are at set times.'

And as you know, we do things a li’l different ‘round here at Duke.

When her job network told her that she could:

A) Keep her casual job
B) Work whenever she needed to
C) Get a qualification while studying from home, and
D) Do it on her own time…

…she said, ‘sign me up!’

'I do it on the bus, on the train, from home – wherever I like, all from my phone.'

Skye’s Next Moves

Where does Skye see herself after finishing her studies? She’s got her sights on working interstate.

'I’ve been planning to go to WA or Tassie. I’ve been to every other state and territory so far, and lived in other states, so it’d be great to tick those off the list.'

It’s almost like she’s a tourism student, right? (Wink wink, nudge nudge.)

In her trademark to-the-point style, she’s got some clear advice for others who have ‘crap’ resumes and are thinking about studying at Duke:

'Just go for it!'

We love it. Keep smashing it, Skye!
