Katie-Anne’s Big Ambitions

Duke Education student Katie-Anne picked up the phone.

“Hey, is this Duke?” she asked.

Yes, it was.

“Brilliant! I’ve got all my feedback ready to go.”

Katie-Anne gave us a rapid-fire analysis of what she liked about her BSB30120 Certificate III in Business (Administration), and what she thought could be done differently.

Safe to say, we loved her straight away!

Katie-Anne’s Story

Katie-Anne is a 39-year-old single mum from Western Australia, living with autism and ADHD.

This comes with both superpowers and challenges.

For Katie-Anne, her superpowers are creativity, honesty and intelligence (and definitely energy).

One of her challenges? Motivation, occasionally.

Which, let’s be honest, affects most of us from time to time.

But Duke’s way of doing things kept her on the ball, she says.

'I really like how Duke kept me focused and on-task. The colour code system worked so well.'

At Duke, we use a colour coding system to show students whether they’re on track or falling behind.

Green? You’re all sweet. Amber? You need a little nudge. Red? You should probably get movin’!

'When I saw amber lights for one of my units, it really motivated me. I wanted to get it back to green ASAP!'

Good to hear our ‘traffic lights’ are working!

Forming Strong Bonds

On top of that, Katie-Anne formed a strong bond with one of our support staff – Kay.

“Her dedication and responsiveness really blew me away. I loved talking to her, and she helped me so much in understanding some tasks.”

“Honestly? She kind of reminded me of my mum!”

Stop it, Katie-Anne… you’re gonna make us cry!

Big Plans for Katie-Anne

Katie-Anne plans to use her Cert III in Business directly. Her goal is to work for herself.

“I wanna run my own business, so I can run my own show, and see the fruits of my own labour.”

What a go-getter. We love that attitude!

And with Katie-Anne’s energy level, we have no doubt she’ll achieve her goals. Even if she stops drinking coffee.

Keep up the amazing work, Katie-Anne.
