After 13 years working in childcare, 33-year-old Emma from Tasmania wanted a change of direction.
When you’re a mum with kids, however, studying for a qualification is probably the last thing that’s on your mind!
After looking around for flexible, affordable courses, she found Duke.
She’s been going from strength to strength in her CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services.
'I really like it. I like how it’s a conversation, instead of a whole document you have to read through. I feel like it sinks in more that way.'
Emma’s Journey Up to Here
Emma enjoyed a great career in childcare, but simply felt it was time for a change.
'I’ve worked in childcare for 13 years. Going into community services was always something I’ve been interested in.'
Like we said, being a mum and studying generally don’t go together super well.
'I did try to study it online with another company in the past. But they made it so difficult, with in-person scenarios required. I like how Duke makes it easy for learners.'
That’s our aim!
Why Emma Loves Duke
Emma was a little nervous about getting back into study after such a long time.
'I was fearful of the load and the commitment at first. But after the induction, I saw that it was going to be really manageable for me.'
And because she’s funding her studies herself, cost was also a big factor.
'Compared with other trainers, your prices are really competitive, too.'
Emma has also been impressed with Duke’s support team, who have been there when she’s needed help.
'I’ve reached out through the chat and the replies are really quick.'
Emma’s Future is Bright
With her ambitious and confident approach, it’s obvious that Emma is going to land herself a job pretty soon.
In fact, she might already be there…
'I’m actually just waiting to hear back on a job application now! I’ve had the first two interviews and am waiting to see if I’ve got through to the next round.'
We love to see that drive and determination in our students!
Emma’s so driven, she’s thinking about studying another course at Duke as soon as she finishes her Cert III in Community Services.
'I’m thinking about doing an admin course to help with my community services knowledge. I just want to maximise my options.'
A natural learner, clearly.
For people in her position, who are thinking about studying with Duke, she says to go all-in.
'Just dive in and do it. The support has been amazing and you don’t even need a laptop for it.'
Cheers, Emma. We’ll see you when you’re a fully-qualified community services worker!
